What is RayHub?

RayHub is a solar hub for your wall. It reads your inverter over your home WiFi and shows what your solar, your house, the grid and your battery are doing right now.

These are the details of the pre-production hub. Sizes and finishes can change before it ships.

The hub

Display

The hub has a 2.8 inch colour touch display, 320 by 240 pixels.

Brightness

Starts at 60 percent. You can set it from 10 to 100 percent in steps of 10.

Theme

Choose light or dark on the hub.

Power

It plugs in with USB-C and runs from a USB power supply, the same kind that charges a phone. There's no wiring to do and you don't need an electrician.

WiFi

It joins your home WiFi on 2.4 GHz.

Setup

You set it up on the hub's own touch screen, or from your phone's browser. There's no app to install.

Case

The case is pre-production. Its size, mounting and finish are still being settled.

Your inverter

RayHub speaks your inverter's own local language.

How it connects

It reads over your home network, straight from your inverter or from the small network adapter beside it.

The language

It's called Modbus. It's how most inverters share their readings on a home network. Most use Modbus TCP. Some WiFi sticks and adapters use Modbus over UDP, and the hub reads both.

How often

Your hub asks your inverter for fresh readings every second. A few brands ask for a slower pace, and the hub follows it.

Read only

It only reads. Nothing on the hub changes how your solar system runs.

What you see

You see live power for your solar, your house, the grid and your battery. You also see today's solar, export and import totals when your inverter provides them, and what you spent and earned today once you enter your power prices.

Brands

Sigenergy is verified in a real home. Twelve more brands are built and tested in our workshop. The connection page lists them all, with the steps for each one.

Every reading comes from your inverter's own data, so accuracy follows your inverter.

Your data

Your energy readings stay in your home.

Account

There's no account, no cloud service and no subscription.

Your readings

Your hub reads your inverter on your home network. Your readings keep coming if your internet drops out.

What leaves your house

Four small things, and none of them carry your energy data.

  • Status report. Once a day. Serial number, software version, inverter brand and how long it has been running. We use it for warranty and software health.
  • Update check. Once a day, asking whether there's a newer version.
  • Weather request. Once a day, for the solar forecast for your postcode.
  • Time check. A public time service, so the clock is right.
Without the internet

Your live numbers keep going. The forecast and updates need the internet.

Updates

Automatic

Your hub checks once a day and installs a new version by itself. You can turn this off on the hub, under Settings then Updates.

Signed

Every release is signed by us. Your hub checks the signature before it installs anything.

Safety net

If a new version doesn't start up properly, the hub goes back to the version it had before.

Day and night

Night hours

Night hours start as 7pm to 7am. You can change them on the hub.

At night

There are three choices. Off rests the screen after a minute with nobody touching it, and a touch wakes it. Dim turns it down to a fifth of your brightness. Keep leaves it as it is. We recommend Off, because resting the light behind the screen helps your hub last longer.

Clock

The hub sets its clock over the internet, in your postcode's time zone.

Forecast

The hub shows what your solar should make tomorrow. It uses the forecast for your postcode and learns from your own system over its first few good days. It's an estimate.

Free power hours

Set your free hours once and a green banner shows while they're on.
